If you have been growing up with Harry, Ron and Hermione, you are probably still waiting for your Hogwarts letter that, for sure, got lost in the mail.
As a BIG fan of the series I've been waiting for a sequel forever! Between fear of being disappointed and excitement I pre-ordered Harry Potter and the Curse Child, months before the publishing. I want in it without knowing anything about it, even though spoilers were available everywhere, I've been a good kid and I resisted every temptations. Maybe that's what I did wrong.
I published a post about the things you should know before reading it, you can find it HERE.

Since It's hard to talk about the plot of the play without spoiling bits. I will just give you the start point of the story. The story picks up from Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows epilogue. Nineteen years after the Battle of Hogwarts our heroes, now grown up, are at platform 9 3/4 to send off their kids. From there the story skips forward to Albus, Harry's kid, forth year of school. The play concentrated itself on the relationship between father and son, Harry and Albus.
I'm just going to give you some clues about the plot: Time-turner, Cedric, Triwizard Cup.


Let me say I was really happy to see our heros back, some even from the dead, and was surprised with the new characters. I loved Scorpius Malfoy, he is a good mix of intelligence and humor, on the other hand  Albus Potter felt obnoxious to me and as stupid as his father, sorry Harry.
The plot was kind of boring and felt like a bad fanfiction from start to finish. After finishing the Harry Potter series we all said good byes to the characters or made up our own story, I would have like to see their kids in Hogwarts, playing quidditch, going to potion class and making some mischief, we don't get any of that again someone is messing with magic to bring back You-Know-Who.

I think that most of my problem with this book was in fact that it isn't a book, but a play the only way to judge it honestly is to see it on stage. As a read it was not so entertaining.

 Harry Potter e La Maledizione Dell'Erede uscirà in Italia il 24 Settembre.

 Se anche voi siete cresciuti con harry, Ron e Hermione, state ancora aspettando la vostra lettera da hogwarts, che deve essere andata perduta nella posta. Come GRANDE fan della serie ho sognato un sequel per la saga! Tra la paura di una delusione e l'emozione di poter rileggere dei  miei personaggi preferiti, ho pre-ordinato  Harry Potter e La Maledizione dell'Erede mesi prima della pubblicazione. Sono stata brava e prima di iniziare la lettura ero riuscita a non spoilerarmi nulla a riguardo, volevo fosse un esperienza pura. Forse è proprio li che ho sbagliato, troppe aspettative e disinformazione. Ho pubblicato un post sulle informazioni utili da sapere prima di avventurarsi nella lettura, lo trovate QUI.

Dal momento che è difficile parlare della trama senza spoilerarvi nulla, mi limiterò a darvi il punto di partenza del libro.
La storia riprende dall'epilogo di Harry Potter e i Doni della Morte. Diciannove anni dopo la Battaglia di Hogwarts, i nostri eroi, ormai cresciuti, sono al binario 9 3/4 pronti a salutare i loro figli che in procinto di salire sul treno che li porterà ad Hogwarts. Da qui la storia salta in avanti, al quarto anno di scuola di Albus, il figlio di Harry e Ginny. La recita si concentrerà sul rapporto padre-figlio di Harry e Albus.
Vi lascio solo con qualche indizzio per il resto: Giratempo, Cedric Diggory, Torneo Tre-maghi.

Mi è piaciuto molto rivedere i vecchi eroi, alcuni persino di ritorno dall'oltretomba, e sono rimasta sorpresa da alcuni dei nuovi. Il mio preferito è sicuramente Scorpius Malfoy, un mix di intelligenza e umorismo, caso opposto invece Albus Potter, l'ho trovato antipatico e stupido come il padre, scusa Harry.

La trama è banale e sembra una cattiva fan-fiction dall'inizio alla fine. Dopo aver terminato la serie di HP, abbiamo detto addio hai nostri personaggi o immaginato un seguito tutto nostro. Personalmente avrei voluto vedere la nuova generazione di maghi alle prese con Quidditch, lezioni di pozioni e qualche guaio magico, in questa sceneggiatura non c'è nulla di tutto questo ma ancora una volta qualcuno sta giocando con la magia per riportare Tu-Sai-Chi in vita.

Penso che il mio problema maggiore con questo libro, sia il fatto stesso che non è un libro, ma una recita teatrale che per essere giudicata onestamente va vista sul palco. Non l'ho trovata una lettura piacevole, purtroppo.

TEA TIME #4: 10 Things to know before reading Harry Potter & The Cursed Child

Before diving head-on in this new story, based on Harry Potter's world, we need to clarify some misconceptions hanging around the 8th story. Let me first say that I'm a huge fan of the saga, and I couldn't wait for this to come out. Here is what you should know from someone that did dive head.on in the book without been prepared for what was in it.

1- IT'S NOT A BOOK.


First of all, this is the original script from the play by Jack Thorne. It's not  a novelization, it's the rehearsal draft of the play, so hold the horses it's not the eight book. There is little description of the characters and locations you will have to fill in the gaps with your previous knowledge of the series and your imagination.

2- IT WASN'T WRITTEN BY J.K ROWLING

Even though her name is the biggest on the cover the script was written by Jack Thorne. The story was created in collaboration between J.K Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. The characters are still hers but don't expect to find her writing style in it.

3- IT'S THE LAST AND OFFICIAL HARRY POTTER'S STORY

Rowling confirmed, at the play premiere, that this is the and of Harry's story and that she doesn't plan to write any more book on him and his family. But maybe on a friend?
Who knows, we are allowed to dream!

 4- IT STARTS WHERE WE LEFT

 Even after reading the play, I still can't figure out who The Cursed Child might be. It could apply to any of our protagonist, Harry, Scorpius, Albus, or the late-revealed villain of the play.
Does someone have a clue?

 6- THE OLD CHARACTERS ARE BACK

 What I liked more about the book was having back my favorite characters, some even from the dead. We can't have them all but we

 7- THERE ARE SOME NEW CHARACTERS TOO

Apart from our old friends we get to see some new fantastic characters and some unexpected ones. Such as Scorpius Malfoy who is, for me, the best character of the play, his personality is something in between Hermione and Ron, he is a really pleasing to read about.

8-IT'S A SHORT READ

There are 330 pages, but since it's all dialogues there is more black space than text. You are going to read it in one stand!

 9- IT'S A BESTSELLER

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child wa selling even before it realises. After it release it sold more than 2 million copies in the first two days, It became quickly the fastest selling book of the decade, it did dethrone even E.L James Fifty Shade of Gray, and keeps on selling. Not bad for a play?!

10- YOU NEED TO SEE IN IT IN THE THEATER

The play premiere was held on the 30th of july in London's West-End at the Palace Theater.
This screenplay is made to be seen on stage, I'm sure it's a fantastic play seeing all the good reviews, and I've tried to get a good ticket for ages but you can't find one they are all sold out, the only way to buy them is from a reselling. Well if they get a little cheaper I'll be the first in line!

 Lo screenplay originale di Harry Potter e La Maledizione dell'Erede (Harry Potter and The Cursed Child) uscirà in Italia il 24 Settembre 2016, uscito invece in inglese il 31 Luglio, noi dovremmo aspettare un po' perchè arrivi nelle nostre librerie.

Prima di buttarci acapofitto nell' ottava storia, nell'universo di Harry Potter, dobbiamo chiarire alcune misconcezioni relative a questo libro. Ecco cosa sapere prima di iniziare la lettura:

1- NON E' UN LIBRO.

 Innanzitutto, è il copione teatrale scritto da Jack Thorne, perciò tenete a feno i cavalli. Non è un romanzo, ma battute di teatro. C'è poco o nulla di descrizione relativa a personaggi e luoghi, dovrete riempire gli spazi vuoti con la vostra conoscenza del mondo harripotteriano e la vostra immaginazione.

2- NON E' STATO SCRITTO DA J.K ROWLING

 Anche se il suo nome è scritto a lettere cubitali sulla copertina, la sceneggiatura finale è stata scritta da Jack Thorne. La storia è stata creata in collaborazione tra J.K Rowling, Jack Thorne e John Tiffany. I personaggi sono acora della Rowling, ma non aspettatevi di vedere il suo stile di scrittura.

3- E' L'ULTIMA E UFFICIALE STORIA DI HP

 Rowling ha confermato , alla premiere teatrale, che questa sarà storia pubblicata su Harry e la sua famiglia. Ma su un amico? Chi lo sà, ci è permesso di sognare!

4- TUTTO RIPARTE DA DOVE ERA FINITO

 La storia riprende dall'epilogo di Harry Potter e i Doni della Morte. Qualcuno ha un indizio?

 6- I VECCHI PERSONAGGI SONO TORNATI

 La cosa più bella di questo sequel, è stato rivedere in azione alcuni dei miei personaggi preferiti della serie, alcuni ritorneranno persino dall oltretomba. Non li rivedremo tutti ma ci accontentiamo.

 7-...E ALCUNI SONO NUOVI

 Oltre ha rivedere i nostri vecchi eroi, un intera nuova generazione di maghi viene introdotta. Tra tutti ho amato moltissimo Scorpiuos Malfoy, la sua personalità è una via di mezzo tra Hermione e Ron,, è brillante e spiritoso.

8- E' UNA LETTURA  VELOCE

Ci sono 330 pagina, ma dal momento che per la maggior parte sono si tratta di dialoghi, vi è parecchio spazio vuoto. Lo si puo leggere tutto in una volta!

9- E' UN BESTSELLER

Harry Potter e La Maledizione dell'Erede era un bestseller ancora prima della sua uscita. dopo la pubblicazione, in due giorni è diventato il libro venduto più velocemente del decennio, detronizando Cinquanta Sfumature di Grigio di E.L James. E' sicuramente destinato a superare ogni record di vendite. Non male per un copione teatrale!

 10- E' DA VEDERE A TEATRO

La prima teatrale si è tenuta il 30 luglio nel West-End londinese al Palace Theater. Questa sceneggiatura è fatta per essere vista in azione sul palco, e visti i responsi positivi sicuramente lo merita. E' impossibile trovare un biglietto disponibile se non presso i rivenditori con prezzi alle stelle. Se dovessero mai essere un po più abbordabili sarò la prima in fila!

The Rose & The Dagger by Renée Ahdieh - Review

The amazing epilog to The Wrath and the Dawn duology.

Renèe Ahdieh created a magical mystical world, that it's again able to warm my heart.
As in the first book the writing is evocative and beautiful, but since our two main character are split apart for most of the book, there is less romance. but it's not any less emotional. Their relationship is more mature, they have accepted their feelings. Now the time for flirtation is over, there is a curse to broken and a kingdom to save.

We left with a city in flames, now Khalid is struggling to rebuild and protect his city and Shahrazad must find a way to break Khalid curse and find her way back to him.
From flying carpets to winged serpents, the fantasy take another step from the first book. Many relationships are put to question, challenged and broken apart. Tariq will have to question his decision and love, leaving aside his pride and doing the right thing.

There are quite a few unexpected plot-twists,  making the reading always exciting and addictive. The writing is flawless and gorgeous, the action scenes push the novel at a fantastic pace. All the old characters grow and change in this book, I particularly liked the introduction of Irsa- Shahrazad's little sister. She is very mature for her age, but she lack confidence in her ability and strength, she is not born brave but she walk her way through it. It is definitely a show of strength working hard to overcome her fears.
As in the The Wrath and the Dawn  the female characters are strong, smart and self-made women.

If it's even possible I enjoyed the sequel more than the first book, there is more magic and adventure, both well welcome from me. It was a perfect ending for a perfect start.

Il sorprendente epilogo della duologia La moglie del Califfo.

 Renèe Ahdieh è riuscita a creare un mondo magico e mistico, che è di nuovo in grado di farmi andare in brodo di giuggiole.

Come nel primo libro la scrittura è perfetta ed evocativa, ma troviamo meno romanticismo visto che i nostri due personaggi principali sono separati per la maggior parte della storia. C'è meno romanticismo, ma non per questo il libro risulta meno sentimentale. Il rapporto tra Sharazad e Khalid è più maturo, il tempo dei flirt è finito, c'è una maledizione da spezzare e un regno da salvare.

Abbiamo lasciato una città in fiamma, ora Khalid lotta per ricostruire e proteggere il suo regno dai nemici alle porte, metre Shahrazad deve spezzare la maledizione del Califfo e ritrovare la strada verso di lui.
Da tappeti volanti a serpenti alati, gli elementi fantastici fanno un balzo in avanti rispetto al primo libro. Molte relazioni vengono messe in discussione e alcune spezzate. Tariq prima di tutto dovrà rivedere le sue decisioni dietro questa guerra d'onore e trovare un alleato in chi non se lo  aspettava, lasciando da parte l'orgoglio per fare la cosa giusta.

Ci sono parecchi colpi di scena che rendono la lettura emozionante e coinvolgente. La scrittura è sempre impeccabile e bellissima, le scene d'azione danno al romanzo un ritmo incalzante.
Tutti i vecchi personaggi maturano e cambiano, mi è particolarmente piaciuta l'introduzione della sorellina di Shahrazad, Irsa. E' una ragazza molto matura per la sua età, sensibile e con poca fiducia nelle sue capacità. Non è coraggiosa ma si sforza di diventarlo, in un certo qual modo è una dimostrazione di forza maggiore, il suo impegno nel affrontare le sue paure. Come in La moglie del Califfo, abbiamo donne forti, intelligenti, artefici del loro destino.

Non so se sia possibile, ma ho apprezzato ancora di più questo sequel, c'è più magia e avventura, due cose che amo in un libro. E' stato il finale perfetto ad un inizio perfetto!

The Wrath & The Dawn #1

The first time I saw this book I felt put down by it's cover, but I kept on hearing only good things about it, so I gave it a shot. The saying "don't judge a book by it's cover" does apply literary here.
The Wrath & The Dawn is a beautiful romantic story that take it roots from A Thousand and One Nights.

"One Life to One Dawn"

The story tell us about Khalid, the murderous Caliph of Khorasan, who each night takes a new bride only to hung her at the dawn. When Shahrzad dearest friend becomes a Caliph's victim, she vows to take revenge and volunteers as his next bride, unwit and kill Khalid. Shahrzad escapes death every dawn by telling the Caliph a story and promising to reveal the end of it only the next evening.
Night after night, tale after tale Shahrzad gets to know more about Khalid, and she will see under the monster's mask and start to fall in love with him, she will have to fight her guilt, royale betrayals and a curse. 

I've been craving a love that feels so genuine, not the most seen unrealistic insta-love, they fell in love little by little, overcoming their fear and apprehensions. Even though there are many elements of fantasy and action, it's mostly a romance. 
The characters are unique and they all had a magnetic attraction for me. Our two main characters, Shahrazad and Khalid, have spontaneous interactions and smart and addictive dialogue. She is a strong lead female character, independent, smart, she knows how to fire an arrow and she stand for her ideals. I always look for a bit of famminison in books and I find in Shahrazad a good example of a strong woman. 
But the fantastic characters are not the only beautiful thing about this book, It's beautifully written and poetic in his atmosphere, the place's description are detailed and magical.

I would highly recommend this book, I enjoyed it a lot !
The Wrath and the Dawn is a duology, the second and final book in the series got published this year and it's The Rose and the Dagger.

Titolo edizione italiana - La moglie del Califfo.

Guardando questo libro per la prima volta, devo dire che la copertina non mi ispirava per nulla, ma continuavo a ricevere soltanto riscontri positivi, così ho deciso di vedere se ne valeva veramente la pena. Il detto "Non giudicare un libro dalla copertina" si applica alla perfezione in questo caso.

La moglie del Califfo è una storia romantica che prende ispirazione dalle Mille E Una Notte.

"Una vita, un alba"

La storia parla di Khalis, lo spietato califfo di Khorasan, ch ogni giorno prende una nuova sposa per farla poi impiccare all'alba il giorno seguente. Quando una cara amica di Shahrazad diventa vittima del califfo, lei giura di vendicarsi e si fa volontaria come sua prossima sposa, per fregare e uccidere il califfo. Shahrazad sfugge alla morte alba dopo alba con una piccola astuzia, ogni sera inizia a raccontare a Khalid una storia permettendo di rivelare il finale solo la sera successiva. Notte dopo notte, racconto dopo racconto, Shahrazad inizia a voler conoscere sempre di più Khalid, vedrà sotto la maschera del mostro e inizierà ad innamorarsi di lui. Tormentata dai sensi di colpa, dovrà affrontare le sue paure, le cospirazioni reali e una maledizione che affligge il regno e il suo sovrano.

Sono stata molto contenta di trovare un libro con un amore realistico e spontaneo, non il solito colpo di fulmine, i protagonisti si innamorano poco a poco, superando le loro paure ed apprensioni. Anche se ci sono molti elementi di fantasia e azione, è da considerarsi prevalentemente una storia d'amore.

Ho trovato tutti i personaggi unici e magnetici. I protagonisti, Shahrazad e Khalid, hanno interazioni spontane e i loro dialoghi sono intelligenti e coinvolgenti. Lei è un forte personaggio femminile, indipendente, intelligente, sa tirare con l'arco e combatte per i suoi ideali.
Cerco sempre nei libri la presenza di un po' di femminismo, e trovo in Shahrazad una splendida rappresentazione di donna forte e coraggiosa.
I personaggi fantastici non sono l'unica bellezza di questo libro, é ben scritto, con descrizioni dettagliate, atmosfere poetiche e magiche.

Consiglio vivamente questo libro, mi ha divertito molto.
E' il primo libro in una duologia, il secondo è  ancora inedito in Italia.

Tea Time & Bad Guys #3

WE ARE THE BAD GUYS #3



The movie Suicide Squad is coming out this week-end and I've been waiting for it since I first saw the epic trailer. With a stellar cast like Will Smith, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, a catching Margot Robbie, and the brilliant soundtrack, it's one of the most anticipated movie of 2016.

Who doesn't love a group of super-baddies who is forced to save the world! 
We, in some part, can relate better to the bad-guys, with their flaws and desires than to any too good to be true heros. I would like to share with you some of my favorite antihero books.
There is a distinguished we have to clarify before going forward into the matter bad and evil are two different things, something evil will for sure be bad but something bad doesn't have to be evil, so we can have bad-guy doing something good, obviously they will do it with style!


I think the master of all the atypical heros is Victoria Schwab, she does have a peculiar taste for monster, more specifically for the ones that live inside of us. Her characters are unique, peculiar, always on the edge between good and evil. Her masterpiece is Vicious 

"Plenty of humans were monstrous, and plenty of monsters knew how to play at being human"

In Vicious, we find are self in a comic like world where super villains and superheroes can be easily mistaken for each other.

 "The paper called Eli a hero.
The word made Victor laugh. not just becouse it was absurd, but becouse it posed a question. If Eli really was a hero, and Victor meat to stop him, did that make him a villain?"

 The story starts with Victor and Eli - two brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognized the same sharpness and ambition in each other. They start a research on adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals the possibility, that given the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary ability. But when their thesis moves from theoretical to practical, things go horribly wrong. Ten years later , Victor breaks out of prison, determined to catch up to his old friend, aided by a young girl who can rise the dead, and some other adds along the way. meanwhile Eli is on holy mission to eradicate every other super-powered person he can find.
Both terribly powerful, driven by revenge, the battle between the two arch-nemeses is going to be epic!

It's all about the ambition, the betrayals and jealousies, that brought together first, and broke apart after, our two protagonists. Eli and Victor both have a dark-side beyond their collect and calm exterior; showing a fine line between good and bad guys.
Everything about this book draws you in: the characters, the plot, the excellent and effortless writing of Victoria Schwab. It's elegantly crafted, the book move fluidly from past to present, each chapter is perfectly linked to the next.

Victor is one of my favorite Villains of all times, I would highly recommend this book to any reader it's beautiful.

Looking for bad guys on my bookshelf I couldn't skip Kaz group of criminals, from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo.


 This is one of the books that blows you away with his fantastic characters, flawless writing and thrilling adventures! 

 The story takes place in Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be brought for the right price and no one knows that better than Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his dreams. But he can't pull it off alone. He will need to recruit some more outcasts from the scum of the Barrell. A convict with a thirst for revenge, a sharpshooter who can't walk away from a wager, a runaway with a privileged past, a spy known as the Wraith, a heartender using magic to survive the slums, a thief with a gift for unlikely escape.
Kaz and his unlikely craw will find them self not only trying to pull off the biggest heist they were ever given but they will have to save the world too.

This book is amazingly structure from the characters, to the plot. A really beautiful start with this series for Leigh Bardugo.

This two are my favorite bad guys story. Do you have some favorite villain?

Suicide Squad esce questo week-end, non vedo l'ora di vederlo visto che lo sto aspettando da quando ho visto l'epico trailer. Con un cast stellare come Will Smith, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, una Margot Robbie che ruba la scena, e una colonna sonora brillante, lo rendono uno dei film più attesi del 2016.

Chi non ama una gruppo di super-cattivi costretti a salvare il mondo!
E' più facile, in qualche modo, rivedersi in questi cattivoni con i loro difetti e desideri rispetto a qualunque eroe buonista. Vorrei condividere con voi i miei due libri preferiti che hanno come protagonisti degli anteroi.
Dobbiamo prima fare una distinzione tra cattivo e malvagio. Un azione malvagia implica la cattiveria ma un azione cattiva non implica malvagità, perciò possiamo avere dei super-cattivi che fanno qualcosa di buono, ovviamente con uno stile non sempre corretto.

Credo che la maestra di tutti gli anti eroi sia Victoria Schwab, tra tutti gli scrittori ha un particolare interesse verso i mostri, e più in particolare verso quelli che vivono dentro di noi. I suoi personaggi hanno sempre una grande profondità psicologica, e personalità in cui emerge la conflittualità tra bene e male. Il suo capolavoro è Vicious.

"Molti uomini sono stati mostruosi, e molti mostri sono stati capaci di fingersi uomini"

In Vicious ci ritroviamo in un mondo dalle atmosfere fumettistiche, dove eroi e cattivi possono essere facilmente mischiati l'un con l'altro.

"L'articolo definava Eli un eroe.

La stessa ambizione che prima legava i nostri protagonisti ora li separa. Eli e Victor nascondono sotto il loro aspetto composto e la loro calma una lato oscuro; ci mostrano come sia flebile la linea che divide bene e male.
Mi ha attirato tutto di questo libro: dalla trama alla scrittura eccellente e senza sforzo della Schwab, è elegantemente realizzato. Il libro si muove fluidamente da passato a presente, colleganto perfettamente ogni capitolo con il successivo.

Victor resta uno dei miei super-cattivi preferito, consiglio vivamente la lettura di questo libro a ogni genere di lettore.

Cercando altri super-cattivi nella mia libreria non potevo lasciare fuori la banda di criminali di Kaz, tratta da Six of Crows di Leigh Bardugo.

Questo è uno di quei libri che ti sorprende con i suoi personaggi unici, avventure pazzesche e scrittura impeccabile!

I couldn't wait to finally read about Levana background story and I have to say that I was quite disappointed with this spin-off.

I'm loving the Lunar Chronicles series so far and I always enjoy reading about the villain's story, why they became the way they are, what made them so despicable. I'm intrigued by the evil figures in a story, they come out usually more complex and interesting than any other heros (see Vicious by V.E Schwab). But Levana's personality doesn't really evolve, she goes from crazy bitch to major crazy bitch.
I couldn't sympathize with her. I think that what didn't appeal to me was how the writer tried to make you pity her for having such unloving parents and sister. But what I saw was only a spoiled and ambitious brat who doesn't care about using others for her own gain, without considering their feelings. I was not able to justify her stalkerish and dissilluded behavior just on what she is been thought. I would have enjoyed her character far more without the whole pity party.

Not everything was bad about this book, in fact I loved the representation of Levana's sister, Channery, also Cinder's mum. She is fuc***g evil, when her sister is in a borderline between evilish and crazy, Channery has it all. She is pure madness, cruel and uncaring to anyone beyond herself. She reminded my of  a modern Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland.
She is evil and she was like this from the start, It's a shame we don't get to see a lot about her, I would have much prefer to read about her.

Beyond the story the writing is always flawless and engaging. The book will be a fast read (only 200 pages) and will give you a better look on the whole story, giving you bits of all the princess start-points.

Now I'm left with Winter the last chapter of this amazing series.

Non vedevo l'ora di leggere la storia dietro a Levana, purtroppo devo dire che sono rimasta alcuanto delusa da questo spin-off.

Sro adorando la serie delle Cronache Lunari di Marissa Meyer e mi piace un sacco leggere riguardo agli antagonisti della storia, che cosa gli ha resi quello che sono, come sono diventati così spregevoli.
Sono sempre incuriosita dalle figure malvagie presenti in una storia, risultano molto spesso più complesse e interessanti di qualunque eroe buonista (vedi Vicious, Victoria schwab). Ma la personalità di Levana non ha un evoluzione particolare, va da str**za a grande str**za.
Non sono riuscita a simpatizzare con il suo personaggio in alcun modo. Ciò che non mi è piaciuto è stato il tentativo dell'autore di muoverti alla pietà, descrivendo come Levana non abbia mai ricevuto amore dai suoi genitori e sorella. Ma l'unica cosa che ne è emersa, è stata una bambina vizziata e ambiziosa che non si preoccupa di usare gli altri a proprio vantaggio, senza considerare i loro sentimenti.
Non sono riuscita a giustificare il suo amore disilluso nei confronti di Evret, pur comprendendo la sua sfrenata ricerca d'amore. Mi sarebbe piaciuto il personaggio molto di più senza la volontà dell'autore di giustificarne il comportamento.

Non tutto è da buttare di questo libro. Ho amato molto Channery, la sorella di Levana e mamma di Cinder. Lei si che è una vera regina de male!
Se sua sorella si trova i una linea i confine tra malvagia e folle, Channery ha entrambe. Lei è pura malvagità, è crudele, folle, indifferente a chiunque altro al di fuori di se. Mi ha ricordato una più moderna Regina Rossa, di Alice Nel Paese delle Meraviglie.
E' malvagia dall'inizio alla fine senza un motivo, non ha bisogno di spiegazioni, è semplicemente folle! Avrei preferito di gran lunga uno spin-off dedicato a lei, invece che a Levana.

Storia a parte, la scrittura è impeccabile e coinvolgente. Il libro è una lettura veloce, solo 200 pagine, e vi darà uno sguardo più approfondito sull'intera storia, con accenni a tutti gli start-point delle nostre amate principesse.

Ora non mi resta che Winter, l'ultimo capitolo di questa coinvolgente serie.

Mi hanno raccomandato questo libro un paio di volte e ora sono stata finalmente in grado di leggerlo. Devo dire che è stato un ottimo suggerimento, mi è piaciuto molto.

Wonder è un intenso, divertente emozionante racconto di un ragazzino che trova il suo posto nel mondo.

August ama Guerre Stellari, giocare alla Play e leggere libri fantasy, come tanti ragazzini della sua età. Ma ciò  che rende August diverso e straordinario rispetto ali altri è il suo viso. E' nato con un anomalia genetica, che comporta una deformazione evidente dei suoi caratteri facciali. Anche dopo un sacco di operazioni chirurgiche non ha ancora una faccia "normale".
August sa che le persone evitano di guardarlo o guardano quando pensano di  non essere osservati, sa che lo chiamano mostro alle sue spalle, sa che la gente lo giudicherà sempre prima dal suo aspetto; quello che non si aspetta è di trovare delle persone che saranno capaci di vedere al di la di esso.
Quando deve affrontare il prima anno di scuola media, lasciando la protezione di casa e dei genitori, August sarà spinto fuori dalla sua comfort-zone, dovrà affrontare gli sguardi, i bisbigli e l'ostracismo comune in quell età per un ragazzino diverso dagli altri - solo dieci volte peggio.

La storia è ben scritta, con uno stile semplice e un buon ritmo narrativo, che si intercambia tra i diversi punti di vista. Nel complesso il racconto tende a essere un po' troppo ingenuo, spinge verso un lieto fine da fiaba che sarebbe difficile ottenere nella realtà. Anche i ragazzi rappresentati tendono ad avere una maturità non comune alla loro età. Ma data la leggerezza e l'atmosfera divertente che rendono questo libro scorrevole e adatto a tutti, è comprensibile. 

Era la prima volta che leggevo della Sindrome di Treacher-Collins, sono stata molto felice di aver trovato un libro piacevole e divertente che mi spingesse ad indagare su un argomento di non comune discussione.
Il libro si legge da solo, consiglierei la sua lettura a tutti i giovani lettori, ma anche agli adulti, che spesso mostrano più timore dei piccoli per il "diverso", dimenticandosi che dovrebbero abbandonare le loro paure e timori e cercare prima di tutto di capire.

Dal libro verrà tratto anche un film in programma come uscita nelle sale statunitensi per aprile 2017.

They did recommend this book a couple of time to me and I was finally able to read it. It was a good recommendation, I totally I loved it.

Wonder is a beautiful, emotional, funny story about a boy that find his place in the world.

We are introduced in this story with August, who loves star wars, playing at the playstation, reading fantasy books, sounds like a normal kid. But what makes August different or extraordinary, is his face. He was born with a genetic anomaly, that caused a deformations of his facial characters. Even after a lot of surgical operations, he still doesn't look "normal". August knows that, he knows how people avoid looking at him and stare when they think they are unotice, he knows they call him monster, he knows that people will always judge him first for his appearance; what it doesn't expect is to get to know people who will see beyond it.
When August as to face his first year of middle school, leaving the protection of his parents and home, he will be pushed out of his comfort zone, having to face the stares, whispers and ostracism that comes with been the new kid - only ten time worse.

The story is well written, having a simple style and good peace, changing the different point of view.  It tends to be a bit too simple-minded pushing to an happy ending that in the reality of things could have been just slightly done. The kids in the book feel at times unrealistic, their behavior is to mature for their age. But given the light and funny mood that the writer wants, it's quite understandable. It reads on his own, it would do for a great middle-school read.

For me it was the first time reading about the Treacher-Collins Syndrome, I was happy to find an entertaining book that could also push me to be more curious about a subject that we don't commonly discuss. 
I would highly recommend it to any middle and high school kid, but also adult, we are able to be worse than kids sometimes, we should stop be afraid of what's different and start trying to better understand it.

They are also going to do a movie adaptation of the book, to be released around april 2017 in the U.S.A

Wild (2014): Book vs Movie

When you liked a lot a book it's always risky to watch the movie, but I have to say that Wild the movie directed by Jean Marc-Vallée did not disappoint me, even if I can't say I'm completely satisfied with it.

The movie is based on the memoir by Cheryl Strayed Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, as in the book we are presented with Cheryl hiking the PCT four years after the loss of her mother, still grieving. 
The book displayed all the raw emotions that she felt during her trial, but seeing them on the screen played by Reese Witherspoon was even better. Reese is perfect for the role, she did an amazing job portraying Cheryl with wit, talent and honesty. 
The movie is worth the spectacular, colorful view of the PCT we get, I'm not a cinema expert but I think they did a great job with the photography. 

-Mojave Desert-

There is a lot of montage, as in the book the present time, the "action" on the trail -walking, thinking, pitching the tent and packing it up- is interrupted by looping reminiscence of her life before. The way the flashback are presented makes it hard to understand most of them wholly from someone who didn't read the book. I did find it artistic and beautiful but I doubt it would be easy to read them for someone new to Cheryl's story.
For almost the whole movie we are stuck with Cheryl, we don't get to see much of the others characters. I know it would have been impossible to include the whole book in the movie but it felt like a shame that there wasn't that much space for her old relationship and the new one that she acquired during her journey.
I would recommend the movie to everyone, if you have read the book I think you will understand it and appreciate more. 

So who did win between the movie and the book?
The book, it explains more clearly her relationships and it was able to move me more than the picture.

I put this book on my summer read list, longing for adventure, and wow what a ride has been! I loved it.
After finishing the book I needed a moment to collect my thoughts, it felt like the end of a journey where you look at all the photo you took and feel both happy and nostalgic.

Wild is Cheryl Strayed's memoir, of her experience hiking the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and what brought her on this trail.
At twenty-two, Cheryl's mother dies, she was her fixed point, her friend. With her death, everything else comes loose in her life, her family scattered and her marriage is soon destroyed with her own hand. Four years later, felling empty of everything but grief, with nothing more to lose, she makes the impulsive decision of starting the PCT. She has no experience or training, she os alone with her will to keep pushing herself. This journey will test her, feeling frighten, dirty, exhausted, lost - only to be found.

This memoir is extremely well written. It reads like a novel, it's exciting, adventurous and will keep your mind on the book even when you are not reading it. 
Cheryl emotions and feelings, are strong and raw, she found the perfect word to portray how she felt during that crucial stage of her life. What struggle, both mental and physical, her hiking the Pacific Trail has been. She strips of all her feeling, good and bad, using strong words and powerful images.

"God was not a granter of wishes. God was a ruthless bitch."

Her display of visceral emotion, makes you feel with her how unbearable it is to lose her mum, how taken her away, the whole castle falls apart, because she was the one making it stand. 
It's hard to understand why life put us in front of some big challenges, she makes us tremble and fall. But what this book shows it's how important it is to pick up from there, to let things go, freeing yourself of some burden, without why and what if.

Beyond the emotional pull, it's an adventure story. We see the physical straggle Strayed had to face during her trail: from rattlesnakes, bears and the most dangerous of them all humans, to dehydration, bruises and destroyed feet. She was unprepared for this journey, but her strong character will make her push on. 

It was wonderful to read about such a strong, vivid woman. The book is well balanced between sad, hopeful and more rare funny moments. I enjoyed reading it a lot, it made me long for adventure. So imagine when I found out a movie was made I was totally on it. Here is my Book vs Movie post.

July Wrap up

And another month has pass by. This month I've read a total of six books and most of them were pretty great.

Scarlet & Cress by Marissa Meyer


I started  as I end it in June, with the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. This month I manage to read the two middle books of the series -Scarlet and Cress. With the addition of some new character -Throne in particular- Ms. Meyer was able to bring the story to a whole new level. 
I still have one book left to complete the series but I think I will first dig in Lavana story with Fairest (Lunar Chronicles #3.5).

First Comes Love


It's summer and I starve for romance, so I pick up First Comes Love by Emily Goodwin. I was a bit disappointed, it's not like I usually expect a lot from New Adult but I always wish to be surprised. It did luck originality, the characters were stereotyped and not interesting. It was not a memorable read, I'll forget about this book in a month time.

After You by Jojo Moyes


Still starving for romance after the novel from Emily Goodwin, I decided I was finally ready to get back with Lou and Jojo Moyes amazing writing, in After You, the sequel to the brilliant novel Me Before You. I love it, even though I advise you to keep at hand a box of kleenex, you are gonna cry hard again. 

The Star Touched Queen

This novel was quite a gamble, I didn't really know what it was about when I picked it up, apart that it had something to do with indian legends, and after reading The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh, I was totally on it.
The Star Touched Queen was a weird book to evaluate, It full of India's folklore and the brilliant writing help to create a magical mood. The good points of this book equal the negative ones, it was a nice book.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children


While waiting for th Tim Burton's movie to come out, I couldn't pass on the book. It's quite a nice story but a bit to childish, both in writings and plot. Looks good in the movie through.
